Event information

JONDO is a story of heartbreak... Five dance paintings for five characters from Lorca's literature who share with Cante Jondo the pain of those who observe and listen to this social and racial expression of blurred origins.

Five lovers without being loved: Rosita, Don Perlimplín, Mariana, Adela and El Director guided by a dancer Guerrero, who shows them in their deep moment as a heartbreaking scream that releases and relieves the pain that also belongs to life.

JONDO, of the first cry, of the first kiss, premiered in the Generalife Gardens in Granada in the summer of 2022, since that summer, this piece continues to involve the public... And us

JONDO is a flamenco dance staging divided into five paintings with a prologue and epilogue, where each of the paintings is starred by a character from the literary work of Federico García Lorca: Rosita, Don Perlimplín, Mariana, Adela and the Director. These Lorca characters star in a specific moment in their history, a single moment where the character transmits the deep feeling of the depth of a wound always marked by heartbreak.

Inspired by the First Cante Jondo Competition in Granada in 1922, the ritual begins with a melodious phrase - in Spanish and Hebrew - that Federico García Lorca noted in his conference on the Jondo Competition in “Architecture of Cante Jondo”
